PRESCOTT ARIZONA REAL ESTATE – Solar & Wind

County planners to mull alternative energy standards this Wednesday
The Daily Courier

PRESCOTT – The Planning and Zoning Commission will consider standards for residential solar and wind energy production when it meets on Wednesday.
Currently, Yavapai County does not regulate the use of on-site generated power. The proposed zoning ordinance amendment would cover differences between residential power generation and use and power-generating utilities.

In 2005 Congress passed the Energy Police Act of 2005 that allowed for “net metering” where residents can generate their own power through wind or solar and sell the excess to utilities companies, which are required to buy it. The Arizona Corporation Commission adopted net metering rules in 2008.

The proposed ordinance would require an administrative review for wind turbines over 30-feet high. The property owner would need to contact neighbors to let them know of the proposal to exceed the height limitations.

The commission will meet at 9:30 a.m. at 1015 Fair Street in Prescott.
